  • Foothills Christian fully embraces the pageantry of high school football.

    Before its game against Hesperia Christian at Junior Seau Sports Complex last Friday, the Knights greeted the 8u Grossmont Warriors on the field. Each pee-wee player sprinted alongside a high schooler, touching a shiny steel helmet before lining up for the national anthem.

    Nothing seemed unusual until Foothills Christian (3-1) and Hesperia Christian (3-0) each sent eight players onto the field for the kickoff.

  • We all know the saying that goes something like this, “Home is where the heart is.”

    It is a true statement which makes it tricky to put home in one spot, so many do not even try. We have instead, spaces that do not reflect who we are or even what we like. They are primarily functional spaces for us to live, sleep and eat.

    But home is a place, or can be made one, for our loved ones to come and create special memories and for friends to gather and get that often fleeting feeling of warmth that comes only from good company and a warm meal.

  • After 10 hours of deliberations over two days, a jury on Friday convicted a man of first-degree murder in the 2016 slaying of Leticia Arroyo in her Santee residence.

    Jose Nunez Torres, 23, was also found guilty of 15 other charges including robbery, burglary, evading officers with reckless driving and two auto thefts.

    The seven-man, five-woman jury also found true special circumstances allegations that the murder of Arroyo, 34, was committed during a robbery, burglary and while lying in wait.
