The increase of higher risk and illegal businesses in the neighborhood has lit a fire of enthusiasm for Casa de Oro residents and businesses alike. Instead of turning a blind eye or becoming apathetic, nearly three-dozen multi-sector community members have united to strategically develop an action plan for revitalization efforts in the Casa de Oro community.

The Casa de Oro Community Alliance has met monthly since October to discuss issues that range from illegal dumping and graffiti to illegal businesses, public drunkenness and crime.

Adriana Chavez is a passionate and service minded yogi dedicated to using her knowledge to promote health and wellness in her community.

Chavez runs CHN Yoga in Santee and is a member of California Health Network (CHN), a local organization dedicated to promoting fitness and health in East County and beyond.

The Water Conservation Garden, a six-acre conservation demonstration garden in El Cajon, is thrilled to announce the selection of Elyssa Robertson as the organization’s new executive director. Robertson succeeds John Bolthouse at the helm of the East County nonprofit.

California State Sen. Joel Anderson honored Senior Helpers East/North County (Senior Helpers) on January 19 with a Certificate of Recognition for its outstanding service to the Santee community and beyond. Santee Health Awareness Month, Santee Health, originally started by the California Health Network to spread the knowledge and awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle throughout the community.

Sycuan Casino appointed San Diego-native, John Dinius to its General Manager position. Since 2014, Dinius held the position of interim general manager and been a driving force behind the organization achieving multiple milestones. Most recently, the casino received national recognition as one of the top 10 casinos outside of Las Vegas by Yahoo Travel, which was also recognized by Fox News.

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage is pleased to announce that Leah McIvor, Independent Associate with the Mt Helix office will chair the Board of Directors of the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce for 2016. McIvor will formally take the gavel from current Chair, Steve Hamann, at the East County Honors gala at Barona on February 11.

When many Americans think of retirement, thoughts of golf or travel plans may come to mind, but volunteering their time also ranks at the top of a year-round to-do list for many retirees.
