San Diego’s annual Gator By The Bay, the largest, most-authentic Louisiana-themed music and food festival this side of the bayou will be held May 11- 14, 2017. Presented by San Diego’s Bon Temps Social Club, it features four days of live music with over 100 musical acts and special performances on seven stages, southern cuisine including 10,000 pounds of crawfish trucked from Louisiana, non-stop live music, dancing and family fun at Spanish Landing Park on beautiful San Diego Bay across from the airport.

The Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation (MTRP) is pleased to present an exhibition featuring four award-winning artists Kenda Francis, Ellen Parry, Julianne Ricksecker and Pamela York.

This exhibit will be on display in the Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor Center Art Gallery May 21 - June 16, 2017.  The public is cordially invited to a reception in honor of the artist on Sunday, June 4, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

The local version of the People’s Climate March took place last Saturday at the Waterfront Park, 1600 Pacific Highway. At the 2014 Climate March, around 1,400 people attended. Organizers of this year’s march hoped for 3,000 or so attendees - but those expectations were well exceeded, as the police estimated the crowd at over 5,000.

Every three minutes, someone in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer like leukemia. For many of these people, their only hope for a cure is a bone marrow transplant. Yet 70% of people who need a transplant do not have a fully matched donor in their family. They rely on a complete stranger for marrow donation to save their life, more than 95% of the time people between the ages of 18 and 44 are selected as a donor by physicians.

El Cajon resident Mary Jean Anderson — owner and president of Anderson Plumbing, Heating and Air — was among Girl Scouts San Diego’s Cool Women of 2017. Anderson received her Cool Woman award during a recent luncheon and ceremony at Paradise Point Resort. Anderson is a former Girl Scout, and has a daughter, Kelly Jo, who was a Girl Scout.
