The nine Chick-fil-A restaurants in San Diego County, including the restaurant at 9418 Mission Gorge Road, Santee, will host a Daddy-Daughter Date Night for fathers and daughters from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10. Reservations are required. Seating is limited.

Santee resident Michael Schwartz feels strongly about protecting Second Amendment rights for gun owners. So strongly that he recently quit his job in financial services and is now serving as executive director of San Diego County Gun Owners, a political action committee.

The Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County, recently recognized St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC), an El Cajon-based, non-profit organization serving adults with developmental disabilities.

The lights are staying on for patients and medical staff at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa thanks to a new Central Energy Plant (CEP), the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) reports. And, the hospital’s normal electric bill to San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) of about $180,000 per month is now zero.

Radio and TV personality Mark Larson, a longtime El Cajon resident, recently began his 41st year of continuous on-air presence in the San Diego market. That makes Larson the current holder of the longevity record for local broadcast on-air work (Sam Bass has been heard on KyXy 96.5-FM since 1978; Hal Clement and Bill Griffith both had 39 years on TV before retiring in 2011 and 2015, respectively).

A vascular surgeon, a chiropractor, an attorney, a beagle and her master, and a pirate who fights for those suffering from childhood cancer are among local volunteers who have been recognized with a 2016 Healthcare Hero award from the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD). Now in its tenth year, the Healthcare Heroes is GHD’s annual awards program that honors volunteers who help advance the delivery of quality healthcare in the East County region.

San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution with three local East County branches in El Cajon, La Mesa and Santee, is returning as the title sponsor of two National Multiple Sclerosis Society Walk MS fundraisers in April.

The two San Diego County Credit Union Walk MS fundraisers will be held on Saturday, April 16 in Carlsbad and on Saturday, April 23 at NTC Park at Liberty Station in San Diego’s Point Loma area.

An important milestone was recently celebrated in the progress of the taxpayer-funded construction of a new Heart and Vascular (H&V) Center at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of East County (BGCEC) has announced more than $5.6 million has been raised towards a goal of $9.4 million for its fundraising effort called the “La Mesa Capital Campaign” that includes construction of a new 25,000-square-foot clubhouse on the campus of La Mesa Arts Academy, previously known as La Mesa Middle School.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of East County (BGCEC) announced installation of a solar power system has been completed at its Santee clubhouse, 8820 Tamberly Way. San Diego-based Empowered Energy Solutions said its solar system costing $184,000 to install will save the Santee clubhouse $338,000 in utility costs over the next 10 years and $824,000 over the next 25 years.
