Jamul resident Barry Jantz, CEO of the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), has been elected to serve as 2016-17 chair of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association (SDCTA) board of directors.

The board of directors of the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) recently elected its board officers for the 2016 calendar year.

Reelected for one-year terms were Robert “Bob” Ayres as president, Michael Emerson as vice president and Gloria Chadwick as secretary. All three served the same board officer positions in 2015, as well as a portion of 2014. Ayres began serving as GHD board president in July 2014, replacing Dr. Michael T. Long, who resigned.

The seven-story Allied Plaza, 7777 Alvarado Road in La Mesa, East County’s tallest and largest office building at 125,000 square feet, has a new building manager for the first time in 25 years. Mary Youngman, who arrived at Allied Plaza in 1990, retired at the end of December.

The volunteer citizens group overseeing the spending of millions of dollars in taxpayer-approved bonds for new and improved patient care facilities at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa has a new member. Sandy Pugliese, the hospital’s community relations manager, has joined the citizens group, called the Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (ICBOC).

Patients are now being treated in state-of-the-art, upgraded rooms on all five floors of the East Tower of Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) reports.


The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, a consumer health library at 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, is currently hosting its Fall Art Exhibit featuring 14 oil paintings of San Diego landmarks by Mike Watson of La Mesa. The show runs through the end of December.


La Mesa resident Mark Neville has been named executive director of the San Diego Bowl Game Association, the non-profit organization that produces San Diego’s two college football bowl games played annually in December at Qualcomm Stadium, the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl and the Holiday Bowl.

Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) is soliciting nominees for its 2015 Healthcare Hero Awards. Now in its ninth year, the Healthcare Heroes is GHD’s annual awards program that honors volunteers who help advance the delivery of quality healthcare in the East County region. Nomination forms are available at www.grossmonthealthcare.org. Deadline for submission of entries is 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at the GHD offices, 9001 Wakarusa St., in La Mesa.
