The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) is seeking nominees for its 2017 Healthcare Heroes Awards. Now in its 11th year, the Healthcare Heroes is GHD’s annual awards program honoring volunteers who help advance the delivery of quality health services in the East County region.

Nominees may include any individual volunteer or volunteer(s) of organizations who demonstrate selfless dedication to a healthy East region community, above and beyond their regular employment, according to Michael Emerson, 2017 GHD board president.

The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) recently elected its board officers for the 2017 calendar year.

The La Mesa Chamber of Commerce will host County Supervisor Dianne Jacob for its first breakfast meeting of the year starting at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Marie Callender’s restaurant, 6950 Alvarado Road, San Diego. Breakfast sponsors include Carl Burger Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM World and Hornbrook Center for Dentistry.

Two longtime Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) board members retained their seats in the recent November 2016 election, plus voters elected a new face to join the five-member board that represents more than 500,000 people residing in the district’s 750 square miles in East County.

The volunteer citizens group overseeing the spending of millions of dollars in taxpayer-approved bonds for new and improved patient care facilities at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa has elected its chairman and vice chairman to serve through June 2017.

La Mesa resident Glen Sparrow, a retired San Diego State University (SDSU) professor, and El Cajon resident Jeffrey Olson, division chief of assessment services, San Diego County Assessor’s Office, will serve as chair and vice chair, respectively.

Spring Valley resident Allan Goetz has been approved to serve on the Grossmont Hospital Corporation (GHC) board of directors as a representative of the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD). GHC is the legal entity for the hospital lease agreement between Sharp HealthCare and GHD, the East County public agency that serves as landlord of the hospital’s property and buildings on behalf of taxpayers.

The San Diego Neighborhood Newspaper Group, publishers of The East County Californian, recently served as a media partner of the 2016 Kids Care Fest, which featured free health care screenings for children on Nov. 5 at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds.

The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County, presented Kids Care Fest. An estimated 650 children received free health care screenings at the 15th annual event.

Two San Diego-area realtor trade groups, the Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors (PSAR) with an office in El Cajon, and the North San Diego County Association of Realtors (NSDCAR), have decided to share a chief executive officer.

El Cajon resident Richard D’Ascoli, current CEO for PSAR, also will add CEO for NSDCAR duties to his workload, succeeding NSDCAR CEO Dianne McMillan who is retiring.

The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, a consumer health library at 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, is now  hosting its summer art exhibit featuring 19 watercolor paintings by award-winning artist Marilyn Hadley Hallam of La Mesa. The show runs through Sept. 30. The exhibit features paintings of San Diego and Southern California landmarks as well as landscapes.

The nine Chick-fil-A restaurants in San Diego County, including the restaurant at 9418 Mission Gorge Road, Santee, will host a Daddy-Daughter Date Night for fathers and daughters from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10. Reservations are required. Seating is limited. 

Activities will include tableside service, dinner, dessert, live enter-tainment and a flower for each daughter. Cost is $25 per couple. Additional children can be added to the reservation for $10 per child. To RSVP a seating time, visit www.cfasandiego.com.
