Spring Valley resident Allan Goetz has been approved to serve on the Grossmont Hospital Corporation (GHC) board of directors as a representative of the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD). GHC is the legal entity for the hospital lease agreement between Sharp HealthCare and GHD, the East County public agency that serves as landlord of the hospital’s property and buildings on behalf of taxpayers.

The San Diego Neighborhood Newspaper Group, publishers of The East County Californian, recently served as a media partner of the 2016 Kids Care Fest, which featured free health care screenings for children on Nov. 5 at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds.

The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County, presented Kids Care Fest. An estimated 650 children received free health care screenings at the 15th annual event.

Two San Diego-area realtor trade groups, the Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors (PSAR) with an office in El Cajon, and the North San Diego County Association of Realtors (NSDCAR), have decided to share a chief executive officer.

El Cajon resident Richard D’Ascoli, current CEO for PSAR, also will add CEO for NSDCAR duties to his workload, succeeding NSDCAR CEO Dianne McMillan who is retiring.

The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, a consumer health library at 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, is now  hosting its summer art exhibit featuring 19 watercolor paintings by award-winning artist Marilyn Hadley Hallam of La Mesa. The show runs through Sept. 30. The exhibit features paintings of San Diego and Southern California landmarks as well as landscapes.

The nine Chick-fil-A restaurants in San Diego County, including the restaurant at 9418 Mission Gorge Road, Santee, will host a Daddy-Daughter Date Night for fathers and daughters from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10. Reservations are required. Seating is limited. 

Activities will include tableside service, dinner, dessert, live enter-tainment and a flower for each daughter. Cost is $25 per couple. Additional children can be added to the reservation for $10 per child. To RSVP a seating time, visit www.cfasandiego.com.

Santee resident Michael Schwartz feels strongly about protecting Second Amendment rights for gun owners. So strongly that he recently quit his job in financial services and is now serving as executive director of San Diego County Gun Owners, a political action committee.

The Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County, recently recognized St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC), an El Cajon-based, non-profit organization serving adults with developmental disabilities.

The lights are staying on for patients and medical staff at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa thanks to a new Central Energy Plant (CEP), the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) reports. And, the hospital’s normal electric bill to San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) of about $180,000 per month is now zero.

Radio and TV personality Mark Larson, a longtime El Cajon resident, recently began his 41st year of continuous on-air presence in the San Diego market. That makes Larson the current holder of the longevity record for local broadcast on-air work (Sam Bass has been heard on KyXy 96.5-FM since 1978; Hal Clement and Bill Griffith both had 39 years on TV before retiring in 2011 and 2015, respectively).

A vascular surgeon, a chiropractor, an attorney, a beagle and her master, and a pirate who fights for those suffering from childhood cancer are among local volunteers who have been recognized with a 2016 Healthcare Hero award from the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD). Now in its tenth year, the Healthcare Heroes is GHD’s annual awards program that honors volunteers who help advance the delivery of quality healthcare in the East County region.
