Helix High school graduate soaring high with his college team
Trelan Taylor, who once played football at Helix High School and still lives in La Mesa when he isn’t attending Chadron State University in Nebraska, was named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference first team.
Taylor, a junior at Chadron State, plays safety for the Eagles. He led the RMAC with seven interceptions during the 2012 regular season (he added an eighth interception in the Eagles’ first-round NCAA Division II playoff loss to West Texas A&M) and also had 69 tackles plus five more in the post-season. He forced two fumbles during the season while recovering one.
Taylor also received third-team RMAC special teams honors as a punt returner. He returned 22 punts for 269 yards during the season.
Chadron State finished the season with a 9-3 record, including an 8-1 RMAC statistic.
