Cajon de Oro Little League wins its second straight title, teams rally behind players and families affected by the West Fire

The Cajon de Oro Little League 11-12 All-Stars won the District 41 championship over West Hills Little League, 6-2, at Fletcher Hills on Monday night, July 9, 2018.

West Hills led early behind a run from Brendon Lewis, but CDO got a two-run single in the bottom of the first by Evan Theim to take the lead.

West Hills led early behind a run from Brendon Lewis, but CDO got a two-run single in the bottom of the first by Evan Theim to take the lead.

Sammy Danto then drove in a run in the second inning with a double, extending the lead to 4-1 in the second.

It is the second-straight year that CDO has won the district title. 

Cajon de Oro is currently undefeated (7-0) in all-stars play this summer.

Cajon de Oro advances to face District 66 champion Lemon Grove Little League on Saturday in the Section 8 opener at 1:30 p.m. at Chula Vista American LL.

CDO qualified for the championship game with an emotional 4-3 win over Alpine American in a matchup of unbeatens on Saturday which was delayed by one day due to the West Fire.

Xavier Farnum hit a solo home run to left field to make it 4-2 CDO in the top of third.

Alpine’s Kade Gaeir, whose family had to evacuate during the fire warning on Friday, lifted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth.

The leagues in District 41 donated the profits from Saturday’s games to help the sister of Cajon de Oro player Justin Castro, whose family lost everything in the disaster just a day earlier.

West Hills LL defeated Alpine, 5-1, in the semifinals on Sunday evening, behind RBI singles from Lewis and Gavin Daley.

Meanwhile, LGLL won the D66 11-12 title by defeating Las Palmas LL, 12-2, at Spring Valley Little League on Saturday.

Nico Mosley had an RBI single up the middle to give Lemon Grove a 3-2 lead in the second inning.

Matthew Johnson added a two-run double down the third base line in the seven-run frame for LGLL.

For Lemon Grove, it is the first district title since winning back-to-back D66 banners in ’14-’15.

Meanwhile, San Carlos Little League won the District 33 11-12 championship with a 6-1 win over Rolando on Saturday at La Mesa National LL.
San Carlos will face District 32 champ Point Loma in the Section 6 opener at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Escondido American Little League.

Lake Murray Little League was eliminated from the District 33 tournament by Rolando in an elimination game on Thursday, 10-3.

Lake Murray’s Isaac Lawson drove in Ezra West for a run in the fourth inning.
